My Thoughts
Ok I was caught aback. I don't really like sports centered anime because I just don't find them interesting. But, I can make this an exception. The reason is the sport/game that is tackled in this anime is something I have never heard of ever in my life. It's a game they call karuta. Its like the reverse version of memory. You memorize 100 poems and must have fast reflexes since you and your enemy see all the cards and when a verse is read by an umpire you have to get the card first before your opponent does (as far as I understand). After watching the first episode I kinda got the gist of the game. It's really interesting and I want to try playing it. So far we have a bijin that's has a tomboy and reckless personality. 2 love interests, a rash, tough, pretty boy and a eyeglasses, nice type nerd. This episode played the childhood friends card and so far it has done well. It seems that Chihaya will start to popularize the game and mix in the love life and character development, wonder visuals (WONDERFUL!!! really!) and music. We can have an entertaining series to expect. But, I will wait for it to pass the 2nd episode test to really see if this show is worth blogging, but so far I don't see anything wrong with the first episode.
Overall mood while watching: Started out lying on the bed sleepy, ending up sitting upright after watching.
