My Thoughts

     Mirai Nikki was a surprise for me. After watching Death Note I was kinda craving for a nice mystery/thriller anime and nothing came close. I then saw this and read the description, then the title translated as "Future Diary" and that got me intrigued. I watched the first 3 episodes and WOW. I never got this excited since Death Note for a mystery/thriller anime. The premise is at first simple, a kid has a cellphone that tells the future, but as the story progressed more and more twists and turns were revealed as well as rules to the survival game. It's like the rules in the Death Note notebooks except that all of them had the same powers however in this anime, every diary has a different way of telling the future. The protagonist's diary can only tell the future of what's happening around him and not what happens to him. Basically, the diary's method of telling the future is the way how the owners use the diary themselves as part of their lives. Since the protagonist is a loner and writes everything he sees thus it ended up like that. The cast in this anime is huge. There are 13 people part of the game and at episode 3 we got to know 5 of them. Also, each character in this anime has his/her own stereotype, and each different making up a diverse cast of characters including a creepy stalker chick. The animation is also top notch and the style of the drawing fits right in to the genre. It uses the style of Higurashi by using the eyes as a main form of expression, and uses gore to its advantage. Overall, I was not bored and I kept wanting more. This series is based from a manga series that just recently finished with 12 volumes. I'm tempted to read the manga but hesitated so that I won't be spoiled by the twists and turns of the story.  This series is also set to run at 26 episodes and hopefully it gets an extension as Death Note had the same number of volumes and had 37 episodes, hopefully Mirai Nikki won't get rushed because so far its the most sadistic and enthralling shows of this season.
