Chihayafuru EPISODE 3 REVIEW

grrr stop screaming Chihaya!

Team Chihaya on their first tourny

He's crying, more like sweating 0_0

My Thoughts

This was a very emotional episode and it was executed flawlessly. The children's acting were so good that it just swept me away the moment they cried. Anyway, this episode really centered around the reason why they were separated from each other. This also showed their first ever Kurata tournament together which by the way introduced new features that I didn't knew about this game. Turns out you can play on 3 vs 3 then I was wrong that the card positions were always the same, every game there's a different card position and you have 15 minutes to memorize both yours and the opponents side, and whats very intriguing is you can block your opponent from getting his card if you know which card he gets out of the 100 spread across the mat, which is quite interesting. The animators did a great job slowly revealing the game as well as introducing as new aspects to it. This game just gets better and better! I also liked the introduction of the strengths and weakness of each player like how Chihaya is adept in single versed cards. This is really a strategy game not for the weak of mind, which no wonder few people play it, its so hard!

Overall, this episode was an emotional ride, and thank God! they finished the childhood arc in 3 episodes because I wanna see them all grown up for the rest of the series. The visuals are consistently good, the voice acting never ceases to amaze me and the plot so far well not really heart stopping but its more on the character development side. If you can't have a mind bending story like Death Note, then you dish out a heart wrenching character driven story like Chihayafuru which so far delivers well.

PS. Chihaya is kinda irritating with her reckless blabber mouthing, but nonetheless I guess it's a part of her charms as well, as for the love triangle I guess she's more into Kurata (the game) than to the boys.

Overall mood while watching:  Pillow biting moments...don't ask.
