Chihayafuru EPISODE 4 REVIEW

Troll face

That's how the game looks like minus the dramatic watches

You might think this is about love, well yes love for Kurata

My Thoughts

You may be wondering why Chihayafuru reviews are posted by me like wildfire. Well, I'm trying to catch up the weekly airing and at the same time I freakin love this series. It really is the emotional anime that is lacking this season. This anime has heaaarrttt...heart heart heart.

Turns out this episode centers around Chihaya becoming class A, Taichi's slowly loving back the game, and the ever shocking Arata not loving the game anymore (well not really because I kinda saw it coming after his grandfather died, but you know Chihaya was shocked and so will I be). We also got to see more kurata action this time, as the new mechanic being centered this time is the passing of cards. So basically after every round you pass a card to your opponent, as for what purpose? I do not understand or even know. 4 episodes in and its really tempting me to play that game, seeing someone enjoy themselves in something really captivates you to try the same thing, just like how Taichi saw Chihaya enjoyed playing. Also, this game really makes you thin because you have 7 consecutive matches and you kinda memorize 50 cards and each match with a different arrangement, and as the anime stated you lose 3 kg per tournament. So for fat people out there this could be a diet worth checking.

I guess the next couple of episodes will center around Chihaya and Taichi getting Arata to love the game again. Then we will get to see the awkward love triangle and how things will be different now since they're all grown up. Also, Chihaya seems to be jealous of Taichi having a girlfriend, but I guess its more like jealous since he found someone else that Kurata. We also get to know Chihaya's reason why she joined the track team since it kinda bothered me since she freaking loves Kurata so much.

Overall, this episode was a joy to watch. It was inspiring and the way they animated the Kurata matches was damn stylish and action packed (for a card game), and the way they portrayed that joke about pubic hair made me laugh as well as the chocololates part. I then just realized that even though this is a sports anime, it's really more of a slice of life shoujo than sports. One last thing, this series really loves its cherry blossoms.

Overall mood while watching: discreet inner screaming
